25 Things I Am Praying For My Son

25 Things-4First things first, Lisa and I will be announcing the name of our boy on Father’s Day, so don’t miss it!

Now to the post… the countdown for Baby B’s arrival is definitely winding down. If he arrives at his due date (which is a big “if”) we have just over 11 weeks until we get to meet our little guy… and we kiss sleep goodbye. As Sunday is Father’s Day, my heart is brimming with excitement for a new life with our little guy. I thought it would be appropriate to share twenty-five things I am praying for my son given the season.

1. I am praying that I model Christ to him (knowing I won’t be perfect) as a dad and a husband to Lisa.

2. I am praying that he loves God with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength. I pray he knows, recognizes, accepts and personally confesses his deep need for Jesus in his life.

3. I am praying he loves ministry. Selfishly, I would love if he became a pastor. Having said that, I believe what is more important is that he loves ministry. Whether he is called to be a leader of God’s church or not, he is called to ministry in Christ. I pray he loves it.

4. I am praying that his influence eclipses my own and that one day I can stand by his side as he reaches the world for Christ.

5. I am praying that he is physically healthy and feels safe.

6. I am praying that he is an avid reader/learner.

7. I am praying God gives him a humble servant’s heart.

8. I am praying he likes (and isn’t allergic to) dogs.

9. I am praying that God makes it possible for him to have siblings. We were told we would never have kids and I don’t want to get greedy here… but I would love for him to have a brother or sister… or both!

10. I am praying that he loves City Kids and makes lifelong friendships there.

11. I am praying he laughs at my jokes.

12. I am praying he is funny.

13. I am praying that I can learn how to connect with him on his level.

14. I am praying that he is able to decipher the difference between the world’s definition of truth and God’s.

15. I am praying he is able to share God’s truth in love.

16. I am praying he is a “first-time listener.”

17. I am praying he has the ability to travel the world.

18. I am praying that he learns multiple languages. Traveling and learning languages is something both Lisa and I are passionate about. Having grown up overseas myself, I hope he gets the privilege of learning from other cultures.

19. I am praying for his wife and her family. This sounds crazy, but somewhere out there God may have a daughter-in-law for Lisa and I and I want to start praying for her now. She will impact his life more than anyone else.

20. I am praying for God to bless him with children. Make no mistake… I want to be a grandpa one day! I’ve heard that it’s the best from many of you. Proverbs 13:22 says “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children.” I hope to be blessed with the gift of doing exactly this.

21. I am praying he makes wise choices in his sexual life. God made sex to be a gift man and wife enjoy in the context of marriage alone. I hope pray in the Name of Jesus that God gives him the patience to wait for this precious gift.

22. I am praying that he has his mom’s good looks… enough said.

23. I am praying that he has an amazing relationship with his mom. She is an amazing person I fall in love with all over again every day. I pray he cherishes her.

24. I am praying God gives him wise Christian mentors/leaders. Both Lisa and I have been blessed with amazing parents and mentors. We stand on the shoulders of those who have gone before us. I pray he gets the same experience.

25. I am praying he loves a good cup of coffee. =)

I hope to see you on Father’s Day at City Church.

In Christ,

Pastor Kyle

P.S. Don’t forget about our epic push-up contest…

What a lovely post. I pray that all of these come true for you and your son. We are praying for his and Lisa’s good health and his entry into this world.

Pushup contest – in which service? Both? Or in between?

Hey Merrijo! The push-up contest will be happening at both services right before the message after the music. =)
