Just connect with God
Today I'm reminded of one of Jesus' final, poignant words to his disciples. He said "Apart from ME you can do NOTHING."
Jesus painted a stark picture in his final evening with his disciples to drive home the point: WE NEED TO REMAIN CONNECTED TO HIM. Read these words in context in John 15:1-17 when you get a minute. Shortly thereafter in John 16, Jesus speaks of leaving us with the Holy Spirit (called our Helper in John 16:7) so we could easily connect with God.
My challenge for us today is to establish/deepen practical rhythms of connectedness to God. As it is still early in the year, I pray each of us remains convicted to stay connected to the Lord. Don't overthink it too much or beat yourself up if you've gotten off track. God just wants to connect with you. A basic Bible reading plan, a growing prayer routine, combined with an obedient life is amazingly powerful. Just like anything, spiritual disciplines take time to yield fruit. So keep doing it and watch what God does inside.
When my kids want to connect with me, I'm the happiest man alive. My guess is that's how God feels when we connect with Him. So go connect with God. You'll be glad you did!
