Ever feel OVERWHELMED & POWERLESS? 🫠🫠🫠

EMBARRASSING FACT: I recently learned I text like a "GenX" even though I'm a millennial...

Someone sent me a test and I learned that my texting style ages me. 🫣🫣🫣 If this concept doesn't make sense to you, well... I probably shouldn't finish that thought. Anyways... not long before that, I had to LOOK UP what the "melting face emoji" meant. I learned it can refer to being hot/melting but it also can mean feeling overwhelmed by something or life in general.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all that there is to pray for? I mean just think about the last week: Hurricane Helene, upcoming elections, your life stresses, finances, church events, etc. The list goes on and on.

THERE'S A GREAT STORY ABOUT THIS in 2nd Chronicles 20. God's people were overwhelmed by the reality of a foe heading their way that they were unlikely to defeat. They got down on their faces, they reminded God of His promises, and acknowledged that they were powerless in this situation. They also declared that God was POWERFUL! Here's what they said in verse 12.

"For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you."

THE RESULT: God heard their prayer, told them not to be afraid, and said that they wouldn't even need to fight this battle. The Lord was true to His Word and the Israelites won without a single sword being drawn (read it yourself to get the whole story!). Granted, not every problem resolves this nicely... but it's pretty cool when it does right!?!

Now onto you and me: do you ever feel overwhelmed by the horde coming against you and powerless to do anything about it? I know I do. Let's follow the example in this story:

  1. Acknowledge your overwhelmed/powerless feelings to the Lord and lay them at the foot of the Cross in prayer.
  2. Remind God of His promises in His Word.
  3. Remind yourself of His past faithfulness to you.
  4. Surrender your requests in prayer and watch for the salvation of the Lord!
  5. Ask God if/what He wants you to do about the situation. When you've done it, rest in God's will and move on.

God doesn't want us walking through life feeling overwhelmed and powerless. God wants us to live victoriously so the winds/waves of life don't sink us. Through Christ, every battle we are fighting right now has already been won. So keep you eyes on God and live in victory!
