Every day is leap day ✚
Today is so "extra."
As I write this, it's Thursday February 29th, 2024 - a quadrennial phenomenon we earthlings refer to as "Leap Day." It's interesting to ponder the thought that we get an extra day every four years. In reality, nothing is actually changing, we just have a messed up calendar system and this fix compensates for the problem. Even though that's true, on paper today is... "extra."
In a sense, every day is kind of "Leap Day" for the Christian. Ephesians 5:14-15 encourages believers to carefully consider the days of their lives, redeeming each and every one. In that sense, we are all living on "extra" time. Yet God is literally giving us the blessing of an "extra" day today. While most of us will probably have no choice but to spend our "extra" day doing business as usual, maybe we can do it with a different perspective.
Here's two ways we can redeem the "extra" blessing of a day for the purposes of Heaven.
1. Ask someone how they're doing and mean it. Take an empathetic moment to feel what someone else is feeling and see what they are seeing.
2. Pray for someone. It's one thing to quietly pray for someone in your heart. I'm challenging you (today) to offer and to pray out loud with someone. In person is the best and most powerful but if it has to be a text message, write out the prayer so they can see it and agree with it. Maybe it's a coworker who is going through an issue, a friend, or someone you have been trying to encourage to grow in their faith.
Be a little "extra" today and redeem the day in the right way. You might just become the "extra" blessing someone else has been praying for.
Hope to see you Sunday!
