Happy Valentine’s Bowl Super Day?

Time for a little irrelevant history.

For most of my pastoral life, the absolute latest time frame for Super Bowl Sunday was February 7th. That allowed for church leaders to separate the "Super Bowl Sunday" experience from the "Sunday before Valentine's Day" experience. I personally enjoyed keeping these separate because they're kind of conflicting themes. Well, in 2022 the NFL made a strange decision to bump the Super Bowl back a week. In my opinion, it ruined it for churches. lol. So now our churches are stuck with a strange Valentine's Bowl Super Day. Does this matter to you? Probably not.

However, now that you've had a gander into the strange musings of your pastor's mind, allow me to encourage you a bit. God is doing some amazing things at City Church right now. New people are coming every week. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus is using you to reach the lost. Lives are being changed. Folks are reading the Bible - including some who have never done so. Baptisms are on the horizon. Oh yeah, and Easter is right around the corner. There is a sense of momentum in the air. In light of those things, it doesn't really matter if it's Super Bowl Sunday or Valentine's Day, God is on the move.

Some of you might be reading this thinking... "I'm so glad God is moving in the church but I don't really feel Him moving much in my life." I get that. We've all been there. The good news is that the moving of God's Spirit in our lives isn't determined by a feeling in the first place - it's based on our obedience. So if that's you, stay faithful wherever you're at right now. In the words of the Apostle Paul:

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith." Galatians 6:9-10

Happy Valentine's Bowl Super Day!

Pastor Kyle
