A slightly different perspective on setting goals
I'll come out with it: New Year's resolutions/goals are not a huge deal to me.
Despite that, I still make a list every year and I always try. I've just noticed over the years how many of them don't stick. Then I'm left with the pile of guilt every time I think about it.
Last year, I wrote out seven things (I'm staring at the list right now). I solidly achieved one and hit about 80% on another. Three I'd rate my success around 50%. One I score myself 25%. The last two left were near strikeouts.
If life measures using baseball success numbers, I crushed my goals. Unfortunately for me, it probably doesn't work like that. So this year, I am starting again. I am picking up the two failures, reevaluating them, and I have added only three new ones to my list. And if I don't crush them all in 2024, I'll be okay with it. What I won't feel good about is if I make ZERO progress on any of them.
To me it's more about a continual focus on life advancement/improvement. I think of new goals more like a Google doc that evolves/changes. My purpose is not to discourage anyone from setting new goals. I just hope to help you do it in a way that leads you to more progress and less guilt.
Here are a couple verses from my Bible reading this morning that relate to this topic that blessed me. I hope they encourage you as well.
Hebrews 10:36: "For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised."
Hebrews 10:39: "But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls."
May God encourage you as you endure and overcome the challenges of 2024. I pray you keep putting one foot in front of the other as you walk diligently towards Jesus and in the direction of your new goals.
Blessings.
