Pastor Chrizle here writing about all the summer fun we have planned, and offering a sneak peak into my heart and home.
Before Pastor Kyle left for Sabbatical he asked our staff to write down five personal ministry-related goals we would each like to see happen this summer. My prayer is that we would find the confidence in believing that greater things will happen every day here at City Church and beyond.
Here are my goals and desires for Summer 2017:
1. Make Room For the Holy Spirit
This past weekend we honored Pentecost Sunday. It was on this day 2000 years ago that the Holy Spirit came to dwell with Jesus’s followers. This is significant to us today because the Spirit of God works through us to accomplish His will. Romans 8:11 says, All that put their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately and permanently indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Our hope this summer is to make room for His power to manifest in the time we gather for worship and prayer. If this is something you also desire to see, commit to engage in our Summer Worship Nights, happening every third Wednesday of each month. The first one will be on June 21st at 7:07pm.
2. Practice Creativity
At night, I have dreams of beautiful colors, vibrant places, and glorious sounds. I believe it is the Lord sharing with me the beauty of Heaven in a glimpse, so that I will long to experience it here on Earth. As Paul explains in 2 Corinthians 5:5, The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less. We as a staff want to begin cultivating & creating content on and off the World Wide Web that will hopefully share a piece of God’s heart and kingdom. Art cultivates our world, and expresses our unseen thoughts/dreams. Music is an area in which City Church is primarily gifted in, but we are always open to ideas on how we can allow for other artistic and creative expression to bring His name glory. Feel free to join us on exercising our creative muscles by shooting me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
3. Discipleship + Royal Training
As leaders, we don’t want to hold anyone back from fully living the life of an heir/heiress of God’s Kingdom. We want City Church to be the training ground that prepares you to step into your calling. As sons and daughters of the most high King, we are given authority and dominion over all that opposes the will of the Lord. But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).
Together we have the great opportunity to build up and encourage one another in love. One of the ways we are doing this is by raising up young leaders to go to summer camp–but discipleship is not just for young people. Jesus commissioned us to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This is not only a job for Pastor Kyle, Obie or myself, but an expectation of every believer. It’s time to rise up and take our place in God’s Kingdom and live our lives as royals.
4. Build A Strong Community
My husband Micah and I recently moved from LA to OC; now only 3 miles away from City Church. We did this so that we would be closer to our church community here in Anaheim. We are extending an invite to anyone who would like to engage in life together through fellowship, and we hope to cultivate a culture of hospitality in our home and in our church. One event we would love for you to put on your calendar is Game Night, happening at City Church on June 30th at 7:07pm.
5. Rest, Revelation, and Reflection
I’ve been so busy that lately I haven’t made time to remember all that God has done for me, even though He is constantly speaking and moving. With the big Christian holidays behind us, we now have the time and space to reflect and absorb all of the goodness of our salvation (before Advent comes again). So, I’m practicing my documenting skills in writing, and jotting down moments in my story with Jesus. Thank you for being my guinea pigs. <3
It is the desire of my heart that you’ll join us on the journey of pursuing these goals. I believe in the power of community–we are all in this together. I ask that you keep me and our City Church staff in your prayers as we hold down the fort, seeking to accomplish these five goals for SUMMER 2017…and beyond!!!
