The Fragrance of Christ

This past week at City Church on Sunday, April 18th, Pastor Kyle Bonenberger
gave an interesting message about the fragrance of Christ.

To a crowd of eager listeners, Kyle asked a strange question to his
audience: What's that smell? Kyle says that the aroma that we should be
giving off when we walk into a room is not our own, but the aroma of Christ.
Our pastor stresses that the "aroma of Christ symbolizes our worship to
God."

Pulling from his You Version Bible , Kyle reads 2 Corinthians 2:14-17. One
excerpt read, "he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like
a sweet perfume. Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God."

To put this message into perspective, our Pastor talks about the fact that
the Gospel can either draw people in or push people away. Sometimes people
may not like the fragrance you give off, and they turn away from the Gospel.
Also, there are times that the "fragrance" we are giving off to people may
be fueled mainly by our own selves and less by God. This fragrance may be
too strong for some people and in turn produce a negative result.

Still, Kyle reminds the congregation sitting in front of him that the
fragrance of Christ is designed to draw people in. As 2 Corinthians says,
"we preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ's authority,
knowing that God is watching us."

"It's our job to be the fragrance of Christ."Kyle asserted. "Be a spiritual
air freshener to people."
