October 4, 2009, marked another successful City Church meeting at Chain Reaction in Anaheim. A blend of new and reoccurring faces dotted the crowd as the music pumped, filling the venue with lyrics of inspiration and hope.
Pastor Kyle Steven had a fresh message for the day, to complete the vision of this new church. This message centered around the idea of sharing God's love by taking the time to love other people. He read from the Bible, Mark 5:21, where Jesus was on a
journey to heal a little girl, but stopped to talk to a woman who was healed from touching his clothes. And yet, even when the people were certain that it was too late for Jesus to make it to the little girl, who they believed had passed on, Jesus went to see her, and healed her.
"Jesus takes the time to stop amidst distraction," Kyle says. He continued, saying that Jesus follows through, so in order for us to share God's love, we have to take the time to follow through by connecting with the people in our lives. He challenged his attentive audience to write down five people that don't know Jesus, and to be present and be consistant in loving them.
Kyle asked us," Do you want to tell people about Jesus, or do you want them to notice Jesus inside of you?" With that question raised to the men, women and children seated in front of him, the youthful pastor tells us that we need to be intentional about the people in our world, and we need to be able to share with them. Mentioning reverse psychology, he says we need to actually show them the love of Christ through our actions, rather then just telling them about His love.
"Go out and love on people," he said. "Be consistent and intentional. God will give the increase."
