Lessons from SWINE FLU

This is Heather.  That's me up there.  I'm one of the proud that gets to be part of this great family that we know as CITY CHURCH.  Believe it or not, I got the SWINE FLU! Yes, that's right, I got H1N1. Kyle asked me to share some "lessons" I learned from it... here goes.

As I walked down the pharmacy aisle, recounting to my mom on the phone that yes in fact, it is swine flu, you should have seen people's faces. Everyone in the row ahead of me, looked at me and (not so) discretely ran to the first "swine flu free" aisle, full of swine flu free air. I just laughed to myself because I too was running from those that were sick just a few days before.

As I have laid at home for the week, away from people, I was struck with a simple thought.
We are so quick to stay away from H1N1, germs or anything else that might compromise our other wise healthy physical state. We quarantine those who are sick, and pray that we don't catch any physical illness.

But how do we protect our spiritual health?

What if the things in our lives that pulled us away from our relationship God, the Dead Zones in our lives, scared us as much as the swine flu does?

We can rejoice in the fact that there is a cure for the virus of our hearts, Jesus. He came to heal our pain, our brokenness and our illness. He is the great physician, and healer of our hearts.

Stay Swine Flu Free!
Heather

(And for those that are curious, Swine Flu, is, well just the flu.)

I had the swine flu but thank God we caught it early and I was able to fend off the brunt of it. It's scary though with kids in the house....God please keep us all well!
