What do you want to be when you are older? What are your goals in life? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
My teachers, peers, bosses, and family have quizzed me throughout my life with those questions. And I have always had answers: I want to be an actress and singer! I want to work at Disneyland. My goal is to be a manager at Disneyland.
On Sunday's City Church service, Pastor Kyle asked, "What is your net worth?" "Have you invested in eternity?" Then while reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren this week, it said, "God is much more concerned about your character than your career, because you will take your character into eternity, but not your career."
Investing my time and energy at work helps me achieve my goals, yet have I invested for eternity? After Sunday I began to feel unprepared for my life beyond this Earth. All the questions from above are not enough. I hold on to Earthly possessions and wants/needs; however, day by day I want to be loving, even-tempered, and always think of God first. Why is it hard to love others? Why is is hard to be unselfish? Thankfully Kyle settled my worries: "don't feel guilty, it's a life long process to be Christlike." It's helpful to know although we need to be Christlike, sin temptations are always there. Perfection is unreal, and God knows, but wants us to be faithful. We must never give up on God. He created us and brought Jesus on Earth to die for our sins, so clearly he has never given up on us!
However you won't get anywhere if you don't start somewhere. In 2 Corinthians 4:6-7, we all have been given treasures whether it be our strengths, gifts, abilities, and/or passions. These treasures are from God and should be used in this world for God's glory. I like to read before I go to bed; therefore, I am reading Rick Warrens' book and like to read the Bible. It clears my heart and mind when I understand a passage and get a more in-depth feel of who God is and what he wants from me. Knowledge of the Bible helps me appreciate, love, and focus on eternity. Also, being involved with City Church has given me a place to be loved and give love.
This life is to prepare us for eternity. So.... have you made investments for eternity?!
