When I was thirteen years old, people began to talk to me about "God." I was open to the possibility that there was some type of higher power out there; but I had a lot of doubts that plagued me.
I felt that if I had doubts about God, that my faith was somehow ingenuine. Friends, all of us struggle with doubt throughout our lives. To doubt is to be human.
Faith is not the absence of intellectual doubt.
I'm going to tell you a secret: faith in God would not be faith if there weren't doubt involved. If there were no doubt, it would be "certain." Doubt forces us to examine the evidence. If you've had doubts about God, join the club!
So then, what is faith? More than that, why is it important?
Faith is finding God in the midst of your doubts.
If God is real, don't you think he's big enough to be found?
Friends, the evidence for the existence of God is overwhelming; but maybe the evidence is not the real reason you and I doubt God. I think "doubt" is a mask we hide behind.
The deeper issue is that if God is real, I have to change my life. THAT is scary!
Here's the good news: God can handle your doubts; and he doesn't want to wreck your life. In fact, God has great things in store for you.
This is the most important weekend we've EVER had at City Church. EVER. Seriously. EVER!
HERE'S MY CHALLENGE TO YOU:
BRING a doubter with you to church this weekend. You will be proud you did. We have a fun, hope-filled service planned; and your friends need to hear what Josh has to say.
