  • Xmas FULL of New Beginnings Part 3

**** In the difficult times, especially those teenage years of moodiness and hormones, I would often find myself angry with God, my parents, and anyone else who had a pulse, when something wouldn’t work out as easy as I would have liked. I would go on and on to my mom, passionately spewing  about life being unfair and God casting my deepest wishes to the wayside.

It was in those turbulent moments that my mom would say, “Be patient. Good things come to those who wait.” Of course these words did nothing but fuel the fire of a restless heart.

At City Church on Sunday, December 27th, Pastor Kyle Bonenberger gave his message on new beginigs and on being patient even when God says no or tells us to wait and simply have faith. He spoke of Simeon, a man who waited his entire life to see the world's new begining with the birth of Jesus Crist, as promised by God. It is written that Simeon embraced Mary and Joseph with love when they needed it, unlike others at that time.

Kyle cited Simeon as an “active waiter,” someone who knows that God has a purpose for their life and are faithful, this person is ready for God. This is different from the “passive waiter” who waits around for God, not doing anything about their situation.”

Simeon lived with a passion and a purpose.

Our pastor tells us that it is important to understand that God will show up in unexpected ways to faithful people, but sometimes we have to wait and be patient.” Still, Kyle says the enemy will come into our lives and tell us that we're not good enough, or that we can't do something, but that's when we need to be faithful and know that God has a plan for our lives.

“Have confidence in God’s picture for your life,” Bonenberger said. “Never lose hope.”

  • Xmas FULL of New Beginnings Part 1

Pastor Kyle Steven opened with new message on Sunday, December 13th, appropriately themed “A Christmas Full of New Beginnings.” His message focused on a somewhat “forgotten Christmas story” about the miraculous birth of John the Baptist.

John the Baptist, one of the most important prophets in the Bible, was born by the grace of God alone. Both parents, older God-fearing people, had prayed for many, many years that they would have a child. But Elizabeth, the mother, was sterile. Still, the couple never gave up hope. One day Zachariah, the father, was bestowed a blessing that promised that Elizabeth, though older and sterile, would indeed give birth to a son named John.

This story is both beautiful and humbling at the same time. It reminds me that God’s plans for us are most of the time different than the ones we have for ourselves. But more importantly, God is in control of it all.

There are many times in life where it’s easy to feel anxiety over the things that are, or are not, happening in our lives. I have fallen prey to those agonizing moments where I am praying for something in my life, and almost demanding that I receive those answers to my prayers immediately. Most of the time, too, I have found that I don’t receive those answers. (Or haven’t yet, anyway). Those are hard moments.

Kyle says earnestly, “We can’t force God’s will to happen any quicker than God wants it to happen.” Is there no more of nail-biting truth than that?

It sometimes difficult to realize that the dreams and hopes that we have for ourselves may not come true at the times that we desire them to. Some dreams may never come true at all. And yet, God has a new beginning in store for us all.

Like Elizabeth and Zachariah, it is imperative to remain faithful, and to believe that God will, in some way, at some time, show us a new life that is more than what we could have ever dreamed.

Kyle says it best: “God’s new beginning for us never comes how we expect it; and it’s always better than we could plan it.”

  • Reasons 2 Celebr8

    CITY,

Christmas is the story of the greatest "new beginning" ever.  Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus was born to an expectant hurting world.  Imagine generations of anticipation waiting, and thousands of years of living as captives in a foreign country.  Amidst all that anticipation, a baby was born, the Savior of the World.

Here at CITY, we are also reminded this time of year that God has brought us through a great beginning.  We are also in a season of "New Beginnings."  We are trying to bring Christ to a hurting community that needs him SO desperately.  We have many reasons to rejoice.

This past weekend we served crafts for hundreds of kids in DOWNTOWN ANAHEIM.

***Special Thank you to Devon from Downtown Anaheim staff for making this possible and all the awesome volunteers from Anaheim***

Here are some photos from the Saturday event. Enjoy!  LOTS more photos on Wade's Photo Blog HERE.
